The Tech North Talent & Skills Summit, hosted by Tech North took place on Friday 18 March and successfully brought together employers, SMEs, LEPS, policy makers, education intitutions and other key stakeholders to discuss tech talent and digital skills development across the North of England.

The summit identified how we can galvanise the power of our community to keep pace with the ever increasing growth and demand for great talent in the North and shared case studies of what’s working, areas of promise and future-thinking, taking place across the City regions, and explored how we can support developments in the future.
The Tech Nation 2016 report underlined the role digital businesses are playing in boosting economies across the North of England – with 283,515 people employed in the digital sector. With devolution deals, rapid economic growth and new industries emerging, the Northern Powerhouse is rising, on the UK and global stage.
The BIS and DCMS report on Digital Skills identifies that 72% of large companies and 49% of SMEs have tech skill gaps. Yet The Education Foundation’s research for Tech North into Northern LEPs Skills and Talent strategies identifies that there is much to celebrate and numerous innovative approaches taking place that need to be scaled up.
Through the Tech North Talent & Skills Summit, we aimed to raise awareness of what’s working across the North and give participants practical ideas and strategies to take away and plenty of opportunities for networking too …
